Welcome to the Kentucky Society for Clinical Social Work
The Kentucky Society for Clinical Social Work (KSCSW) is committed to promoting a strong professional image for Kentucky clinical social workers, educating its members about legislation that affects their practices, and upholding ethical excellence. The society is open to any social work professional affiliate. We encourage anyone involved in social work or a similar field to join.

We have been hearing from caring KSCSW members all week about the passing of Edwin Hackney, LCSW. We wanted to pause and share the gratitude we know many of you feel for his incredible contribution to our profession, to our state, LGBTQ community and to our Society. Like so many of you, I feel honored to have known and learned from him. He was an inspiring pioneer in so many ways, from being brave and bold enough to say things the way they are, to always slow down and think of unintended consequences, and how our individual and collective actions impact the most vulnerable people. He was honest and kind, clear, and unassuming. He was undoubtedly among the most conscientious and ethical of Treasurers to serve KSCSW, even to the frustration of those of us who would have just assumed get on with it; he was committed to doing it right. He served for decades on our board with a steadfastness and vision that still garners the admiration of many. He taught those Ethics and Clinical Supervision principles to so many clinical social workers. He supervised others so well that the impact of his life’s work ripples through our interactions daily.
KSCSW would like to make a donation to the Pride Center and share how much he meant to us as a group and individuals. Please click here to contribute.
We will miss Edwin and are forever grateful for his contribution to Social Work and to the lives of so many.

Welcome from the President
Hello! It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the Kentucky Society for Clinical Social Work Board of Directors! My name is Chris Whitsell and I am the president for the Board. I have been a licensed clinical social worker since 2001 and in the field of behavioral health since 1992. I had always desired to be more involved in the KSCSW and after my retirement from Community Mental Health in 2019 I was able to find time in my demanding schedule to get more involved! I have found this Board to be invigorating and in alignment with the values I cherish. I look forward to every Board meeting and continue to see opportunities to be involved in ways that I believe help promote a strong community of clinical social work!
There will be multiple avenues for your desired level of involvement, all of which fit with busy schedules and of which you will find genuine comradery and flexibility! You are beginning a two year term that will leverage your talents, passion and commitment. Active participation includes:
You will play a key role in helping the Board with upcoming strategic plans that will build on previous efforts and assist the organization with advancing advocacy, education and community! It is my belief that we are well positioned to not only respond to the many social justice threats and opportunities for advocacy for all but positioned with initiative and vigor to embrace any challenges and partner together for the well being of all! I look forward to the opportunities that lie ahead for the KSCSW and am so excited to welcome you at this time! Thank you so much for your willingness to share your time, talents and vision with the KSCSW and the community of clinical social workers across this state! Please don’t hesitate to call on any of us with questions and contributions as we work to promote and advance the values of social work and contribute to this rich history! SIncerely, Christopher D.
