About
I am 50 years old. I have three children; my oldest Taylor is 21 and is a senior at Harvard University...my middle is Kaylee and she is 18 and is graduating from Boyle Co HS and headed to U of Louisville this fall to major in nursing and my youngest is Kyle and he is 12 and attends Boyle Middle School. I have been married for 25 years to Christy who just retired as a Director in the New Vista Comp Care system. She holds a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology and will be joining my practice. I enjoy anything outdoors, especially running. I have registered for my first Ultramarathon in November...a 50 miler. I retired from Community Mental Health in August of 2019 where I was the Director of Child and Family Services w/ The Adanta Group in Somerset, KY for two years. Before that I spent 27 years w/ Bluegrass.org (now known as New Vista), the last 7 years of this tenure as the Corporate Director of Child and Family services for the 17-county region. I have been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker since July 20, 2001 and hold a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Kentucky (`96 grad). Currently, I own and operate Whitsell Counseling & Supervision, LLC in Danville, KY. This is a private practice that I started 4 years ago. I provide individual and family therapy services, focusing in particular on children/adolescents and young adults. I emphasize a person-centered approach to services that prioritizes relationship and therapeutic alliance. I tend to be eclectic but am most comfortable with a cognitive-behavioral approach as well extremely sensitive to being trauma-informed. I also provide clinical supervision for CSW's both individually and via group (have a group that meets 1x month on Saturdays). I currently provide services in office space I sublease on 416 S 4th Street Danville, KY, but very recently leased space at 905 Hustonville Rd Suite 8 Danville, KY where my wife will join my practice to also provide counseling services. I also contract with Danville Independent School System to provide therapy, training and consultation services to students and staff. I also sit on the Board of Directors w/ Key Assets Kentucky. My wife and I are working with consultants currently to re-vamp the practice website and unveil a marketing campaign to help respond to service needs throughout the central KY area. We provide telehealth and in-person services.
